Hubballi Housewife Loses Rs 17 Lakh in Cybercrime: Morphed Photos Used for Extortion
Hubballi, Karnataka: A chilling cybercrime has surfaced in Hubballi, where a 33-year-old housewife fell victim to a morphed photo scam and lost a staggering Rs 17,93,586. The woman, residing in a posh apartment near Akshay Park, was targeted by miscreants who threatened to make vulgar morphed photos of her family members viral on social media.
Modus Operandi:
Despite not providing any personal details like Aadhaar card, PAN card, bank details, or photos, the woman inexplicably received loan amounts from various instant loan apps. After repaying these loans, she started receiving threatening messages and morphed photos on her WhatsApp. The cybercriminals demanded further payments to prevent the photos from being circulated online.
Fearing for her family’s reputation and succumbing to the pressure, the woman transferred a total of Rs 17,93,586 to various UPI IDs provided by the perpetrators. Unable to bear the harassment any longer, she confided in her husband, who then reported the incident to the cybercrime police.
